Cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) is a highly sensitive and specific marker of myocardial injury detectable in plasma by immunoassay techniques. The authors hypothesized that horses with clinically apparent cardiac disease would have elevated plasma cTnI when compared to normal horse plasma concentrations, with cTnI concentrations measured using a human immunoassay that has been reported on sparingly in previous studies with horses.
